About

Hey, I’m Tawny!

I’m a mid-twenties, free-spirited, kind of hippie, other-culture-loving, Vespa-obsessed girl! My husband and I certainty aren’t perfect, but we strive to advocate for & pursue a slower & more ethical lifestyle, so I created this blog as a place for others who are passionate about world change to connect with artisan women (and men) around the world & help them support their families.

Ever since I was a pre-teen, I’ve been kind of a nerd for Ethical, more Sustainable living. I’ve always loved thrift shopping, I’ve advocated for eating more local, & I’ve cared about the environment. Back then it wasn’t as “trendy” and a lot of people thought I was a weirdo/hippie, but I’ve never lost that passion.

I started this blog in 2017! I was a fresh-out-of-Bible-college student (with a TESL degree) who had a passion for missions, but wasn’t able to go onto the international mission field just yet. I had learned about the importance of sustainable business instead of Charity in my college classes, and I was ready to change the world! The only problem, I didn’t have a lot of funds, and I wasn’t able to move across the world (not yet anyway!)

God dropped my Fair Trade, Ethical Fashion business right into my lap at the perfect time! I truly believe He had been preparing me for the moment I heard I could start my own business that would create sustainable jobs around the world WITHOUT having to leave the country or even spend tons money! This is what inspired me to start this blog where I could share the journey of my Husband and I living a slower, more Ethical lifestyle!

In just those 3 short years, with the help of my amazing customers, I’ve been able to travel to Haiti to visit artisans, gifted at least 20 givebacks (mama kits, fruit trees, cloth diapers, chicks, ultrasounds to madagascar, and more!). Not only that, I’ve been able to educate people on the importance of sustainable business vs. charity, and have given them the opportunity to use their buying power for LASTING good.

I’ve also been able to provide for my family, do travelling I never thought I would be able to, meet other like-minded women, and have fun taking creative photos that make me feel empowered. (thanks, Instagram Husband. 😘)

Keep following along to get to know more about me and my passion for world change, and how YOU can use your buying power for good!

JOIN THE FREE FACEBOOK COMMUNITY

I decided to call this blog & my team of other compassionate entrepreneurs who have partnered with me “The Kindred Movement” because I heard this quote at a Trades of Hope event and wanted to create a MOVEMENT. We are Kindred Spirits with the artisans who are across the globe. They are women just like us who would like to provide for their families in a dignified way. They don’t want charity. They want an opportunity. We can provide that for them by partnering together to share & sell their beautiful products, and by inviting other Kindred Spirits to join us and create a ripple effect, a MOVEMENT for change. We are a collaborative collective of Compassionate Entrepreneurs.

ABOUT US

We’re Tawny & Luke, a couple of early twenty-somethings who were crazy enough to get married in college, and are now navigating recent grad life (AKA we’re broke and trying to figure out what to do with our lives). Tawny earned her degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Luke in Intercultural Studies, so you could say we have a *slight* passion for travel and experiencing other cultures. Our main goal in our relationship is to not take life too seriously, enjoy the little moments, and maintain that “honeymoon phase” love for our entire lives. We don’t want to waste our lives while we’re young– we want to live more, travel more, spend more time together, give more to others, and most importantly– serve Jesus. To us, Palm Trees 🌴 mean warmth (and usually the beach), so we’re forsaking our Northern hometowns and embracing the Ocean Air. For now, we have our sights set on Florida, but there are plenty more Palm Trees out there we would like to see. We invite you to share in our adventures through our twenties, travel, marriage, blogging, our budget renos, and everything in between.

Check out our Bucket List!
